Goodbye 2018...
What a year it has been!! So here is my round-up of just a few high points of the year...
Weddings...
I have had some of the most stunning and unique weddings this year, from delicate, elegant cakes like Jade & Alan's above, to the amazing torn, peeling paper and calligraphy of Emma & Matt's below - and everything in between!
Each wedding cake has been designed purely for that loving couple and is never replicated, I love that we can provide something truly original for your special day!
Thank you to each of our couples from this year, and I wish you all the happiest of years ahead now you are married!
Birthdays...
You guys have definitely kept me and my team busy this year! With everything from Yoda above to classy floral cakes like below, it's all left the Butterfingers kitchen!!
This year the drip cakes have been huge, and this trend shows no signs of leaving anytime soon. They somehow encompass being elegant and simple yet also ridiculously over the top and I really do love them!!
Christenings...
Christening cakes are always that little bit special being your little one's big day and I love that we go the extra mile to ensure each cake is unique and beautiful just like this one that is one of my favourites from this year for the lovely little Taylor.
Collaborations...
I love collaborations and photoshoots!! This is a chance to get creative alongside other talented individuals and my favourite from this year has to be the shoot we did on our farm!
Dodgy weather didn't hold us back and the above picture was inside one of our barns that is built onto the original old shed - the old external wall provided the perfect backdrop for this scene.
This second image is from 'the meadow', one of our lower fields that looks across to Slieu Whallian and where I decided to hang a cake from a tree! I'm sure the others thought I was slightly insane when I suggested it but look how amazing it turned out!!
And the awards...
I couldn't finish a round up of my year without a little mention of the awards and successes of the year!
In October I got the news that Butterfingers had again qualified for the Best Business Guide! This means so much as it is no easy feat to meet the requirements for the guide and to do so before the year was even out...was just incredible!
In November I took myself to Cake International, the world's biggest and most prestigious cake competition. This wasn't my first visit however it was my first time taking an entry, and not just one but two!
I entered twice into the wedding cake category and was stunned to find I had managed to achieve a gold for my cake above, and a silver for the one below. I still have to pinch myself as I can't quite believe I did so well!
I also had the honour of attending the Cake Masters Awards (think the Oscars of the cake world!), catching up with my favourite cake friends and making new cake friends, it was the best night and I didn't get in until 4am!!
Only days later I attended The Wedding Industry Awards - as one of only two regional finalists from the Isle of Man! The other finalist was the lovely Emma from Oh My Pen & Press. We didn't win but it was so lovely to represent the island and to know that we are doing a pretty good job to be finalists at these exceptional awards!
Ending the year on such a high professionally was something I could only have dreamt of when I started this little business, and I am even more excited for what is to come in the next few months!
A big thank you to all of my lovely clients, my fab team and all my amazing family and friends, this year has only been possible with your continuous loyalty and support.
